The emergency physicians at Banner Desert Medical Center belong to a business named “Progressive Medical Associates.” Progressive Medical Associates has contracted their billing to a company named “PracticeMax.” If you would like to discuss your bill with them in person, their representatives are located at 9382 E Bahia Dr in Scottsdale, AZ, 85260.
Through a personal experience of being overcharged by their company, I have learned a great deal that I would like to share with others. If you do have insurance, they will bill you an amount that is far above market rates. Compare the CPT code you have received on your bill to what their company would receive if you were a Medicare or Insurance patient. The reimbursement rates are available on the Internet. The amount I was charged was exceptionally above the market rate for the services provided. There is no justification for their fabricated prices other than they want to steal as much money from you as they think they can get away with. The money they steal from you during your time of medical need is pure profit for their pockets.
I have spoken with an employee on the inside of the company that informed me of how their billing and negotiation system works. If you do not have insurance, they will offer you a 20 percent discount if you pay it all at once. Do NOT accept this offer, as they have intentionally manufactured your bill to hope people will go for it. Instead, send them a hand written letter asking why they are trying to steal money from you by billing fabricated amounts that are no where near what everyone else pays.
During this process, visit or call their representatives repeatedly to demand an answer as to why you are not being offered the market price. The employee on the inside of the company said that if a person calls ten times or more during the first 90 days of the bill, the company will offer them an additional 10 percent discount because they are costing the company too much money on personnel costs. If you wait until the last 10-14 days before the bill’s due date, an additional 10 percent discount will be given because they know their chances of getting nothing from you has dramatically increased.
With the application of this knowledge, I was given a 40 percent reduction offer on my bill, which was still much higher than what Medicare and insurance companies would reimburse them. If you have not been given at least a 40 percent reduction offer on your bill, you are not pushing hard enough and you need to follow the steps I outlined above. When you repeatedly call or visit their representatives, they will try to tell you anything they can think of to try to deny you or throw you off track. Do not believe them. They are simply hoping they can steal as much money as they can from you for their personal profit. Making repeated calls (minimum of 10) or visits to the address above is the way to get them to realize you are serious about not being stolen from.
